They are a piece of cake. For a ranger you would have the a4ld tranny. Depending on if you have electronic overdrive or an OD gear on your gauges is how you know which shifter to get.

You can get the shifter at many places. Kartek, baja concepts, race ready. You can get either an art carr or a winters shifter. Transwerx makes them for all kinds of vehicles. A ranger is a common application so you don't necesarily have to get it from them. It will come with all the hardware needed. Remove old cable from the tranny.

It will come from your tranny up to the front of the firewall, through the firewall and into the column. Also you can remove the column shifter as well so it doesn't look like you have two shifters. The new shifter you can mount ot the floor or build your own mount for it. Once you have figured out where you want it you want to make sure that you have enough cable to run it to your tranny. The cable is pretty long so you shouldn't have a problem. Drill a hole through the floor and put the cable through.

Re-manufactured Valve Body Assembly Complete READY TO BOLT ON OUT OF THE BOX! This valve body has the updated TransGo Shift Correction Kit.

Once all your clearance issues have been checked bolt everything down and test her out. Its very easy to do. Hope that gives you an idea. Any more questions just ask. You'd have to find a manual valve body for that trans, or have a GOOOOOD tranny guy custom make one. They aren't the most difficut thing to actually make, but know what passages to block off and which to leave open is the trick.

Anyways - after finding the manual valve body for the tranny you'd also have to find the correct gate pattern to match your shift pattern (remember you get a choice of standard or reverse here). The shifter is something you can adapt to work w/ the tranny. You can even make a custom gate pattern to work. The manual vavle body is a much different story. I would get in touch with him, price is around 275 when I was looking around for one. And no you don't need a manual valve body to run a shifter. A shifter obviously will not make your tranny work like a manumatic, but it simply relocates the shifter from the column to the floor. Posts: 247 Joined: Wed Mar 26, 2003 12:29 pm Location: Arizona. You dont need a manual valve body to run a gate shifter.

I have a gate shifter and the stock valve body and it works great. He was saying that when you are offroading that the bouncing can cause the actual column shifter to move, changing gears on you, when you dont want it to. This absolutely wont happen with a gate shifter. Brian at Transwerks simply takes Art Carr gate shifters and modifies them for use with many different applications via different gate plates. He actually works very closely with Art Carr of Huntington Beach.
