History of Nissan X- Trail The Nissan X-Trail is a crossover SUV produced by giant Japanese automaker Nissan since 2000. Initially created as a compact crossover, by the third generation it was considered a midsize crossover SUV due to its length gain. As one of Nissan's first crossover SUVs, it was released at a time when several other competitor models were launched, including the Suzuki Grand, Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V. Renowned for its smart, stylish looks and great drive quality, the X-Trail was a step forward for Nissan into the crossover SUV market.

Within the Nissan line up, the X-Trail is positioned below the truck-based Xterra and Pathfinder, as a big brother to the slightly smaller Qashqai. The main production plants for the X-Trail are in Kyushu, Japan and Kanda, Japan, though some assembly is undertaken by other Nissan plants in various countries.

Awarded the What Car? Reader Award Winner 2014, the X-Trail has been a commercial success for Nissan throughout the world, ranking above average in terms of reliability - particularly with the newer generations. First Generation Nissan X-Trail (2000 - 2007) The first gen Nissan X-Trail was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in September 2000, before sales commenced initially in Japan. This first-generation X-Trail used the Nissan FF-S platform, which it shared with the Nissan Almera and the Nissan Primera.

When it initially launched in the United Kingdom the first-generation car was available in S, Sport and SE+ variants, which continued until 2004. In 2002 the first generation X-Trail was awarded a four-star safety rating in initial Euro NCAP rankings, which was upheld during re-testing in 2007. During later years the trim levels were revised to SE, Sport, SVE and T-Spec. During this time all models were now equipped with electric windows, electric adjustable door mirrors (on SVE & T-Spec models they also folded electrically) as well as climate control, CD player and remote central locking. There was another trim level update in 2006.

Nissan is still selling the original Nissan X-Trail T30 model in some countries, where it is called the Nissan X-Trail Classic. Across this initial collection of Nissan X-Trail vehicles a selection of engines were available, including a 2.0 l 14 petrol engine, a 2.5 l l4 petrol engine and a 2.2 l diesel offering, with a range of 4-, 5- and 6-speed transmissions.

Second Generation Nissan X-Trail (2007 - 2013) The new version of the Nissan X-Trail had its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in 2007. It then went on sale in Japan in August of 2007, before beginning to sell in Europe in the third quarter of that year and in other countries towards the end of the year.

Based on the Nissan C platform, the second gen X-Trail was slightly larger than the previous model. The second generation model was not sold in the United States and Canada, where it was instead replaced by the new Nissan Rogue. In 2012 a limited edition Nissan X-Trail Platinum was released for the UK market, equipped with special features not seen on any other X-Trail. Only 200 were produced. The second generation X-Trail was replaced in October 2013 when the third gen version was unveiled in Japan. Third Generation Nissan X-Trail (2013 - Present) The newest version of the Nissan X-Trail was unveiled in 2013. It was based on the jointly-developed Nissan/Renault Common Module Family (CMF) platform, and incorporated styling traits from other Nissan models like the Juke, Murano and Patrol.

In European countries these newest models went on sale in 2014, with the only engine available being a Renault sourced 1.6 dCi R9M diesel engine with CVT or 6-speed manual. In 2014 the new model X-Trail was awarded a five star Euro NCAP safety rating, continuing Nissan's reign when it comes to the production of safe vehicles.

The third gen X-Trail has been very well reviewed. Auto Express give it 4.5 out of 5 stars, saying that the previous off-road bias of the older models has been replaced by a curvier design and crossover-style performance, with nimble Qashqai-inspired handling.

As a result of this many publications feel that the new model has a more sophisticated, high quality look, delivering well when it comes to interior space. As the new X-Trail is an entirely new vehicle, right down to the chassis, reliability information is limited, but all problem areas on the previous generations - including quality, handling and cost to run - have been improved, so the prognosis is good.

A quick response once the enquiry was posted, I had several quotes come through by the next day. I took up the first quote that I received because the price was competitive. I generally order and buy from a main Dealer, but this time i decided to go with 247 as it saves me going all the way to the main Dealer some 15 miles away.

The delivery took 2 days as promised and the price including delivery was less than I would pay over the counter at the main dealers. So I am well pleased, plus I didn't have to drive the 15 miles there and back to get it.
